The time for celebration and pageantry is once again at hand with the 240th Marine Corps birthday set to take place Nov. 10. What does the celebration mean to Marines across the globe? To Gen. John A. Lejeune, obviously, it meant a great deal. On Nov. 1, 1921, he issued Marine Corps Order No. 47, Series 1921, which provided a summary of the history, mission and traditions of the Corps. The illustrious Lejeune directed that the order be read to every command each subsequent year on Nov. 10 in honor of the founding of the Marine Corps. It will certainly be read in locations across the United States, Afghanistan and across the globe wherever Marines might be found. It might be a silent observation in a austere location, or perhaps a more ceremonial reading. Happy Birthday Marines Semper Fi John "Doc" Meehan USN Retired FMF Corpsman

National POW/MIA Recognition Day is celebrated on September 18, 2015. In the United States, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed on the third Friday in September. This day was established by an Act of Congress, by the passage of Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act.
It is one of six days that the POW/MIA Flag can be flown. The POW/MIA flag was first recognized by Public Law 101-355 in 1990. Free dental Care for Veterans June 27, 2015

Over 300 Aspen Dental Offices to Provide Free Care for Veterans on June 27

As part of the Healthy Mouth Movement, Aspen Dental will dedicate a day to providing dental services free of charge to our nation’s veterans. Dentists and team members from more than 300 Aspen Dental practices across 31 states will give back to veterans in their local communities on June 27. Interested veterans should call 1-844-ASPENHMM  (1-844-277-3646) to find a participating office and schedule an appointment in advance.

Many people who want a healthy mouth struggle to find oral health care when they need it, due to access to dentists nearby, availability and time, or insurance.

Those barriers kept more than 150 million Americans from visiting a dentist last year. The Healthy Mouth Movement is a community giving initiative launched by Aspen Dental to deliver free dental care and oral health education to people in need across the United States.
Through the Healthy Mouth Movement, dentists and team members in nearly 30 states devote their time to providing much-needed dental care to those who want a healthy mouth and need it most – free of charge. The Aspen Dental MouthMobile, a fully-equipped dental office on wheels, goes directly into communities where care isn’t readily available to provide free services and to raise awareness of oral health. Additionally, hundreds of Aspen Dental practices provide free days of service as part of the Movement.
In its inaugural year, the Healthy Mouth Movement served close to 3,000 patients with the involvement of nearly 2,000 Aspen Dental volunteers. In total, doctors and team members delivered more than $1 million in free dental care.

Many of those patients were veterans, and after seeing the need that exists in this community firsthand, we decided to build on this momentum and focus our efforts in 2015 on providing care and service to those who have served our country.
Aspen Dental will work closely with local veterans’ organizations to reach those in need in their community throughout the Healthy Mouth Movement. Additionally, Aspen Dental is proud to partner with Got Your 6, a collaborative campaign that works to empower veterans and strengthen communities nationwide by uniting veterans’ organizations and engaging civilians to bridge the civilian-military divide. Got Your 6 – meaning “I got your back”– focuses on six key pillars of veteran reintegration, including leadership, health and education.
Got Your 6 unites nonprofit, entertainment industry, and government partners in collective action to change the cultural narrative around veterans in America, engage veterans and civilians together to foster understanding, and empower veterans to lead here at home. Got Your 6 believes that veterans have the unique potential to strengthen communities across the country and works with partners to ensure veterans can continue service in their communities as leaders and civic assets. Aspen Dental shares this belief, and through the MouthMobile tour and service of Aspen Dental team members, veterans will receive much needed dental care at 28 stops in 21 states in 2015.

The VFW is asking all VFW Posts to participate in the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Partner program. The Commemorative Partner Program is designed for federal, state and local communities, veterans' organizations and other nongovernmental organizations to assist a grateful nation in thanking and honoring our Vietnam Veterans and their families. • To highlight the service of the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and the contributions of Federal agencies and governmental and non-governmental organizations that served with, or in support of, the Armed Forces.

      • To pay tribute to the contributions made on the home front by the people of the United States during the Vietnam War.

        • To highlight the advances in technology, science, and medicine related to military research conducted during the Vietnam War.
        • To recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by the allies of the United States during the Vietnam War.
For VFW Posts interested in becoming an official Commemorative Partner, they must submit an application and a signed Statement of Understanding.  Applications are available atwww.VietnamWar50th.com on the Commemorative Partner Program.  The approval process is usually less than 30 days.
